Honouring Kinship and Alternate Care Awareness Week

September 15–19, 2025

From September 15 to 19, we proudly celebrate Kinship and Alternate Care Awareness Week—a time to shine a light on the extraordinary individuals who open their hearts and homes to children and youth in need of alternative care. These caregivers—grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, family friends, and community members—play a vital role in preserving the threads of family, culture, and community that are essential to a child’s identity and well-being.

🌿 The Power of Kinship Care

Kinship care is more than a placement—it’s a lifeline. It offers children and youth a sense of stability, belonging, and emotional security during times of uncertainty. Whether the care is temporary or long-term, being surrounded by familiar faces and traditions helps reduce trauma and build resilience. These caregivers often make profound personal sacrifices, advocating tirelessly across schools, health systems, and community services to ensure the children in their care thrive.

🤝 Collaboration and Commitment

We also recognize the deep trust and collaboration that kinship caregivers demonstrate as they navigate assessments, service plans, and reunification efforts. Their partnership with our Society is foundational to achieving the best outcomes for children and youth. It’s a relationship built on mutual respect, shared goals, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of young people.
