We are pleased to share that Priscilla Manful, our dedicated CEO, recently appeared on CTV’s Your Morning and CP24 Breakfast (January 21st & 22nd) to discuss a crucial issue in recognition of Bell Let’s Talk Day.
During the interviews, Priscilla discussed the rising number of children with complex needs—those living with multiple mental health, developmental, or behavioural conditions—and the severe challenges families face in accessing the care they require. She also highlighted the crisis at CCAS, where 35% of the 205 children in care have complex needs, which account for more than 50% of the organization’s total care expenditures. Priscilla touched on the province-wide struggle to find suitable placements, the financial burden on children’s aid societies, and the heartbreaking reality of parents who feel forced to relinquish their children to the system due to lack of support.
Priscilla also emphasized while over 97% of children remain with their families, the 3% who enter care often have the most complex needs, highlighting the heartbreaking reality of families forced to relinquish their children due to lack of supports. Collaboration among all involved is crucial to address this under-discussed issue and drive meaningful change.
