Marissa’s story – Camps 4 Kids

“When I was a child in foster care I got plenty of opportunities to experience camp. When I hopped on that camp bus I was extremely nervous, I didn’t think I would make any friends or talk to anyone. By the time we arrived at the camp site I had made a bunch of friends and made myself comfortable with the counsellors. I got the chance to learn new things, expand my imagination and create new memories. I enjoyed having the freedom of being outdoors and seeing the world in a whole new way. I met plenty of new friends of which I am still friends with now and I have gained lots of confidence in myself. I got the chance to expand my creativity, and to conquer my fears. When it was time to leave, I didn’t want to leave because I was leaving my friends behind, and I wouldn’t have all that freedom again until the next year. Camp was the best time of my life because it was fun, energizing, and well needed. I went home with a bunch of memories and pictures to show what a great time I had.”
