Foster Family Appreciation Week: Celebrating Our Guiding Lights

Foster caregivers play a vital role in supporting children and youth who are unable to remain safely in their own homes due to child protection concerns. By opening their hearts and homes, foster families provide a stable, caring, family-based environment where children can feel supported while their family works toward reunification or a permanent plan is established. Reflecting the rich diversity of Toronto, foster families come from many backgrounds and share a commitment to working collaboratively with children, families, and the Society to promote safety, well-being, and belonging.

During Foster Family Appreciation Week (October 19 – 25), we proudly recognize the extraordinary contributions of our foster caregivers who open their hearts and homes to children and youth, providing stability, compassion, and hope when it is needed most. This year’s theme, Guiding Light, reflects the vital role caregivers play every day, offering comfort, reassurance, and support through life’s challenges. We also acknowledge the dedication of our Foster Care team and staff across the agency, whose partnership and commitment help create positive outcomes for children, youth, and families.

As part of this year’s celebration, CCAS will host its Foster Caregiver Honouring Event on October 24, recognizing the dedication and commitment of our foster caregivers. This year, we are proud to celebrate three new foster homes joining our community, alongside caregivers reaching significant service milestones ranging from 5 to 40 years. We will also honour a retiring foster family whose decades of service have made a lasting impact on the lives of children and youth. Together, these milestones reflect the remarkable compassion, resilience, and commitment of our foster care community.

To all our foster caregivers, thank you for being a guiding light in our community. Your generosity, dedication, and belief in the potential of every child continue to make a meaningful difference every day. As we celebrate Foster Family Appreciation Week, we honour the love, care, and hope you bring to children, youth, and families across our region. Your impact is felt not only today, but for generations to come.
