Canadian Music Icon Headlines CCAS’s Black History Month Celebration

Maestro Fresh-Wes inspired guests at CCAS’s first agency-wide Black History Month Celebration on February 28th. Often referred to as the ‘Canadian godfather of hip hop,’ he is an established rapper, actor, author and public speaker. Maestro spoke to more than 200 children, youth, foster parents, staff members, and volunteers at the event held at North York Civic Centre.

I have a picture on my bulletin board of Sherri*, a three-year old who is hugging Jimmy, her eight-year old foster brother, a few months after she was placed in the same foster home. Both are grinning. Of them, their worker said, “they adored each other.”

We work with Toronto's Catholic community to protect children from neglect and physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
